What is window film?
Window film is a thin decorative layer applied to suitable flat, smooth glass. Depending on the product, it can add color, pattern, a frosted look, or a stated level of visual screening without replacing the glass.
FancyFix regular static-cling film installs with water and is adhesive-free. Custom self-adhesive film is a separate option and is not reusable.

How to Apply Window Film
Window film installation is simple for most smooth glass surfaces. Follow these nine steps to install static cling window film, reduce bubbles, and get a clean finish. Each package includes 1 roll of window film, 1 squeegee, and 1 instruction sheet.
- Clean the glass. Thoroughly clean the entire application area, especially the edges next to the window frame or glass sealant. Spray on a cleaning liquid such as soapy water or a dish-soap solution, then use a cloth or squeegee to remove dust and dirt.
- Measure and make the initial cut. Cut the film to the measured glass size, leaving about 1.2–2 in (3–5 cm) of extra material around the edges for trimming later. Cleaning the glass and making this initial cut can be done in either order.
- Wet the glass thoroughly. Generously spray plain water over the entire glass surface until the water runs down. Thoroughly wet the edges too.
- Remove the backing liner and wet the cling side. Peel off the backing liner and spray water on the smooth cling side of the film so it can slide into position.
- Position the film. Place the smooth cling side against the glass and adjust the film. If it is not positioned correctly on the first try, lift it off and apply it again.
- First squeegee pass. Spray water over the installed film so the squeegee glides smoothly. Use the included squeegee to push water and air bubbles from the center outward toward all edges in a radial pattern.
- Trim the excess and leave a gap. After the first squeegee pass, trim off the excess film. Leave a gap of about 1/8–3/16 in (3–5 mm) between the film edge and the window frame or glass sealant. Do not let the film edge rest on the frame or sealant: this can allow air to enter over time, causing the edges to lift and the film to come off.
- Second squeegee pass. After trimming, squeegee from the center outward again. Remove the remaining water and air bubbles between the film and glass so the film makes full contact and clings securely.
- Wipe dry. Use a dry cloth or paper towels to wipe water off the installed film and the surrounding area.

Why is my static-cling window film lifting at the edges?
Common causes include dust or residue, cold glass, water trapped near the edges, film touching the window frame, or an uneven surface. Clean the glass thoroughly, apply the film with water, squeegee from the center outward, and leave a 3–5 mm gap around the frame. Allow 24–48 hours for the remaining moisture to evaporate.
Is FancyFix static-cling window film renter-friendly and reusable?
Yes. FancyFix static-cling window film can be removed from smooth, clean glass without sticky residue and repositioned during installation. It may be reused when both the film and glass are kept clean and dust-free. Some FancyFix products are adhesive-backed, so check the application type on the product page before ordering.
Why does the film look darker before installation?
The window film has a backing layer before application, so the color may appear deeper before it is peeled and placed on glass. After installation, light passing through the glass makes the final effect look clearer and closer to the product images.
What is the difference between static-cling and adhesive window film?
Static-cling film uses no glue, is easier to reposition and remove, and is usually the better choice for renters or seasonal décor. Adhesive film creates a stronger bond and is suited to longer-term installations, but it is less forgiving and usually not reusable. FancyFix identifies the application method on each product page.
